Why We Fear Michigan
Fear Michigan is a cinematic investigation into the state’s most chilling legends.
What began as a short-film experiment became an ongoing field report — documenting sightings, myths, and collaborations with Michigan’s own brewers, musicians, and storytellers.
Every project connects folklore with the real places and people that keep these stories alive. From Bellaire to Elk Rapids to Cadillac, we follow the strange and the sacred hiding in plain sight.
Fear Michigan is our open case file — an archive of what we’ve uncovered and what still refuses to stay buried.
MEET THE TEAM
Spenser Robnett: Co-Creator
I was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, and have spent the past decade chasing stories that don’t fit neatly into headlines… tales whispered in diners, caught on old VHS tapes, or carved into trees along the backroads.
After studying Film, Television & Media at the University of Michigan, I directed projects that span genres—from Scary Cherry, a zombie film rooted in Northern Michigan’s cherry harvest, to documentary work that took me from Houston to Mongolia and back to the Upper Peninsula.
In 2024, I created Way Steady Productions and turned those stories into films that blend folklore and brand, truth and myth. Find out more at waysteady.com:

Logan Gardner — Co-Creator
I began writing stories as a teenager and completed my first novel in high school, which sparked a lifelong love for film and storytelling. After studying cinema in college, I spent three years in Los Angeles working with top production companies and learning the craft from every angle.
Since returning to Michigan in 2020, I’ve continued to write and create films that blend strong character work with bold, original concepts. Collaborating with Spense on the Fear Michigan Cinematic Universe has been the ultimate expression of that vision.
